Speybank is situated in the pretty village of Craigellachie. The village itself, which means rocky hill, dates back to around 1750 when there was a ferry across the Spey where today’s village stands.
The village offers idyllic surroundings of forest and hills and sits above the River Spey and famous Thomas Telford Iron bridge. Built in 1814 it is one of the World's first Iron bridges.
Craigellachie is also home to the Speyside cooperage, the only cooperage in Britain with a visitors centre and well worth a visit to see the skilled coopers at work.
Craigellachie is ideally situated for touring the many whisky distilleries, the surrounding Speyside villages of Dufftown, Aberlour and Rothes include 14 of Speyside’s most prestigious distilleries including Glenfiddich, Balvenie, Macallan, Aberlour and Glen Grant, all with visitors centres.
Midway between Aberdeen and Inverness, Craigellachie and Speyside offers much, much more, fishing the River Spey, walking the many trails and Speyside Way, mountain biking, visiting castles, teeing off on the numerous golf courses or maybe touring the highlands or pretty coastal villages of the Moray Firth. Whatever you are visiting Craigellachie for you can be sure of a warm welcome at Speybank.
